Best Of Phoenix^® 2016

In a year where so many words have been devoted to the notion of building that giant wall, how about we change the conversation and, instead, thank our neighbors to the south for all the ways that Mexico makes life better for us here in the Valley of the Sun. It's a fast two-hour drive (okay, you might have to speed a little) from the outskirts of Phoenix to the edge of Nogales, but in so many ways, our metropolis bumps right up against Mexico, borrowing language, art, music, sports, food, love, and more. The influences in Tucson and Yuma may be more obvious, but they're here in Phoenix, too, everywhere from kindergartens to university classrooms, on the streets and in high-rise office board rooms. They're hidden, at times, and often with good cause. But we're here to shout it from the rooftops. Turn the pages of the 38th annual edition of New Times' Best of Phoenix as we tear down a few walls, celebrating the best hearts, minds, and culture this city has to offer.

En un año en el que tantas palabras se han dedicado a la idea de la construcción de ese muro gigante, qué tal si cambiamos la conversación y en cambio damos gracias a nuestros vecinos del sur por todas las formas en que México enriquece la vida para nosotros aquí en el Valle del Sol. Es un viaje rápido de dos horas (de acuerdo, puede que tenga que acelerar un poco) de las afueras de Phoenix hasta la frontera de Nogales, pero en muchos sentidos, nuestra metrópolis se entrelaza con México, absorbiendo el lenguaje, el arte, la música, los deportes, la gastronomía, el amor, y mucho más.
