The fun begins about 3:40 in...
Well, if this doesn't knock the shine off Sarah Palin's star, I don't know what will. In the latest YouTube video of Palin worshiping at her hometown church Wasilla Assembly of God, Palin is prayed over by a witch-hunting Kenyan pastor by the name of Thomas Muthee, who asks God to "bring finances her way...in the name of Jesus," and declares that, "Every form of witchcraft, it will be rebuked in the name of Jesus."
This video's so nutty that I'd almost believe it was a hoax if Palin wasn't there in her trademark hairdo and specs, head bowed and palms raised upwards in supplication as Muthee and a couple of other pastors lay hands on her. According to the Huffington Post, Muthee's spoken at the Pentecostal Alaskan church more than once, and he's infamous for having fomented mob anger back in Kenya against a woman he declared to be a witch.
Sources at HP and elsewhere date this YouTube video to a 2005 visit by Muthee. Palin no longer attends services at this crackpot congregation, but Palin still associates with the church, appearing there from time to time. No doubt you'll recall the previous YouTube video of the Wackjob from Wasilla speaking to her fellow holy rollers, which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago. In that one, she declared the Iraq war to be divinely inspired, and asked the assembled Bible students to pray for a $30 billion natural gas pipeline to be built.
Of course, when you get right down to it, pretty much all religion is wacky. I'm reminded of that line from Sarah Silverman on how she'd explain the difference between her Jewishness and her boyfriend's Christianity if they ever reproduced: "Mommy is one of the chosen people, and Daddy believes that Jesus is magic."
But some beliefs are wackier than others in these non-medieval times of ours. Question is, do you really want the Wasilla Wing-nut worrying about witches in the White House?
I do have a few reservations concerning the quality of the video. Could it be that we're being had? Still, Muthee is a known quantity, and the footage does show him praying over her, even if the audio seems weird at that point. Plus, it hardly seems far-fetched given her previous statements at the church in question.
