The only way to experience a group this vast, colorful, and earthbound is to simply just listen. An excessive use of adjectives seems unjust. Faun Fables and its creator, Dawn McCarthy, seamlessly draw from a spiritual and mythological realm to convey world sounds that are entrancing. The expression song telling is at the core of their musical undertakings, whether its through the sheer physicality of a song like In Speed, in which band members hiss, haw, and stomp, or a song like Transit Theme, in which you feel forever stuck on a train in the midst of an unforgiving Russian winter. Their sound is almost meant for a theatrical stage, and their videos hint at what could be in such a setting. The group formed in 1997 and has done well in drawing an eclectic and devoted following throughout the world. In an age of minute-made MySpace musicians/personas, its refreshing to come across an artist as rounded and idiosyncratic as Faun Fables.
