You deserve a breakdance today. The ASU Hip Hop Coalition boogies into Burton Barr Library's Teen Central this Saturday, October 18, for a hip-hop hoedown. From 2 to 4 p.m., DJ demos set the beat as breakdancers, graffiti artists and freestylers take to the floor, and participants ages 12 to 18 learn all the tight moves from the 90-member student dance squad. Sure, it's gonna make you sweat, but the free event will set the mind in motion as well. "We'll be discussing the origins and the four main elements of hip-hop: DJing, MCing, breaking and graffiting," explains Tina Lee, Coalition co-director. "The HHC is collaborating with other talented Valley groups for demonstrations of each element."
Indeed, this is a Coalition with a mission: To bring hip-hop clinics and history lessons to students across the Valley, targeting schools that can't afford to offer dance instruction.
Burton Barr is located at 1221 North Central. For more information, call 602-262-6694 or see www.asu.edu/clubs/hiphop coali tion/index.htm. - Jill Koch
