Besides skin-searing temperatures and sky-high electric bills, here’s another sign we’re hip-deep into summertime: the annual assault of big-name package concert tours. Between now and Labor Day, the PHX will be invaded by the Vans Warped Tour, Projekt Revolution, the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Crüe Fest, and the Metal Masters Tour, to name a few. First up is the metal madness of Gigantour. Headlined by Megadeth (fronted by former Valley resident Dave Mustaine), the three-year-old concert tour serves up a wicked Whitman’s sampler of bands from various sub-genres of hard rock and heavy metal. In addition to the speedy thrash of Mustaine and company, this year’s version offers the melodic death metal of Finland’s Children of Bodom and Sweden’s In Flames, the stoner metal of High on Fire, and the dope deathcore of local boys Job for a Cowboy.
