Summer school sucks. That is, except for the magical time when summer school actually means going to The Gladly on Sundays for the Cocktail Summer Camp. This week Joshua James of Clever Koi puts on the teacher’s hat for the afternoon.
James has made a name for himself at his bar by serving up straightforward, clean, and herbal cocktails. On August 10, he’ll take that style and infuse it into a class, which he says will be a lesson on low alcohol cocktails and stirred cocktails with gomme. Two of the cocktails he plans to mix up will “most likely” include a classic Sazerac and the Up In Smoke, his mix of whiskey, Bonal liqueur, St. George spiced pear, and gimme.
You can catch this spirited course at The Gladly, located at 2201 East Camelback Road in Phoenix. The event, beginning at 1 p.m., is $30 and will include three or four cocktails, recipes, and camp souvenirs. You can make reservations by calling the restaurant at 602-759-8132.
