Lights. Camera. Action. Founded in 2005, the Almost Famous Film Festival is an annual event that challenges writers, actors, filmmakers, and their crews to create an original short film in just 48 hours. From February 14 through February 16, 61 teams from Arizona, California, and other parts of the Southwest wrote, acted, edited, and produced their signature shorts for a shot at the big screen. Film requirements included the theme of temptation, a button prop, and a line of dialogue saying, “This should be interesting.”

Only 49 teams made the deadline, and now festival officials have narrowed it down to 20 for a final, public screening. Here, a panel of festival judges will decide which movie deserves to be (almost) famous.

The Almost Famous Film Festival will hold its public screening Thursday, February 27, at AMC Arizona Center 24, 565 North Third Street. Tickets are $10 and include free Almost Famous Film Festival memorabilia. Will call opens at 5 p.m. Screenings start at 7. For more information, visit www.thea3f.net.
