Nogales Hot Dogs

In a poll conducted to determine what Arizona’s state food should be, we pit the Sonoran hot dog against the prickly pear cactus fruit, and hot dogs won by a pretty wide margin. One of the best versions can be found at a stand on the southwest corner of 20th Street and Indian School Road in CenPho. Named for one of the biggest cities in the Mexican state of Sonora, Nogales Hot Dogs makes a Sonoran-style dog that will make you question your favorite topping choices of simple mustard and relish. Mesquite-smoked and bacon-wrapped, the hot dog is tucked into a fresh bun, smothered in beans, and loaded with toppings like mayonnaise, chopped tomatoes, guacamole, salsa, and cheese. This is a great secret spot for a late-night fourth meal too. Owner Pablo Perez, who has been in the Sonoran hot dog biz for over ten years, will make the perfect hot dog for you late into the evening.
