Super Chunk Sweets and Treats

Pastry chef Country Velador and husband Sergio opened their sweet-minded shop in Old Town Scottsdale as an outpost for the chef's handcrafted desserts. The store’s goods, meant to be grab-and-go, include four varieties of gourmet caramel corn: brown butter fleur de sel, chocolate pretzel hazelnut, chocolate bacon, and Junk Food. The store also sells something called duck fat toffee, plus less exotic but equally delicious cashew brittle and a peppermint version of brutti ma buoni cookies. The pastry case features John and Yoko miniature cakes, a milk-and-honey concoction featuring bourbon and cinnamon. Full-size s'mores and pineapple upside-down cakes are always available, as is Velador’s award-winning peanut butter chocolate pie.
