Susie's Mexican Cafe

There’s a Mexican restaurant on every block in Phoenix, but how many serve coffee, tea, and American-influenced Tex-Mex alongside more traditional fare? Just one: Susie’s Mexican Café and Lounge. For over twenty years, Susie’s has been a neighborhood hub for simple, tasty homemade Mexican dishes like enchiladas de camaron, chorizo fundido, albondigas, beef milanesa, chicken fajitas, and deep-fried flautas with guacamole. The restaurant also offers a full breakfast menu with pancakes, huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, and menudo. And happy hour, especially at the Tempe location University Drive, is a great time to go for $2.50 margaritas and $1.50 drafts. With those deals, you can get a few drinks and a basket of chicken-topped nachos or a green chile cheese quesadilla for under ten bucks. Then again, it’s worth splurging for the deep fried fruity burrito filled with apple, peach, or cherry, topped with whipped cream, and served with a scoop of ice cream on the side.
