You probably don't know the name John Van Hamersveld, but chances are you own and cherish a few pieces of his work.
Van Hamersveld is the artist who designed the album covers for The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour, The Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street, Jefferson Airplane's Crown of Creation, The Grateful Dead's Skeletons in the Closet, Kiss' Hotter Than Hell and Blondie's Eat to the Beat, among others.
Actually, as a pop artist he also did the official poster for the 1984 Olympics and designed logos for Fatburger, Contempo Casuals, and Broadway Deli, making him sort of the Shepard Fairey of his day.
Van Hamersveld will be signing his work at Hoodlums Music and Movies in Tempe this weekend, from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 and from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, June 20.
Check out his work here -- you might be surprised how many pieces you own. And, if you're looking for a nice slice of vinyl, Hoodlums can definitely hook you up.
