Lee "Scratch" Perry is one of the most important names in reggae, and for damn good reason.

In addition to pioneering the dub sound, Perry has cranked out dozens of albums as both artist and producer, collaborating with Bob Marley & the Wailers, Max Romeo, The Heptones, Beastie Boys, Andrew W.K., Moby, and uh, former adult film star Sasha Grey, among many, many, others.

The Upsettter, a new documentary
by filmmakers Ethan Higbee and Adam Bhala Lough, documents 70 years in the life of Perry, featuring extensive interviews with the man himself.

FilmBar is showing the film twice nightly starting on Thursday, May 19 through May 29, with a special showing on June 6.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I hoped FilmBar would be showing.

In addition to the Scratch doc, the bar/theater is going to be screening the reportedly excellent Phil Ochs documentary, Phil Ochs: There But For Fortune next month, about a musician every bit as revolutionary as Perry.
