Celebrate 420 in Phoenix with smoking grooves

So Sunday is April 20, better known as “4-20,” an unofficial holiday for pot smokers everywhere. Of course Phoenix -- a city in a state that sits between Mexico and California -- will host its share of celebrations and shows. Even if you don’t smoke pot, there’s plenty of mellow music and groovin’ goodness to go around. Here are just a handful of the goings-on around town on April 20:

Of course Phoenix -- a city in a state that sits between Mexico and California -- will host its share of celebrations and shows. Even if you don’t smoke pot, there’s plenty of mellow music and groovin’ goodness to go around. Here are just a handful of the goings-on around town on April 20:

ReggaeFest 4-20 at Club Red in Tempe: Featuring performances by local hip-hop collective Cousins of the Wize, as well as dancehall/rock mashups by Latino Rebel Band, Egress, Purple Kush, Tender Mercyes, The Neoprimitive, The iiFS, Soulafide, Brewed to Perfection, Underwater, Jermaine Fagan, and more. Reggae Riddim 420 Weekend at Goat Head Saloon in Mesa: With live music from Walt Richardson, The Market Band, Mister Kali, Motherland Soul, Ghetto People Band, Journalist Bandoo, Inginajah, and more. Admission costs $10. Call 480-464-8030.

Latino Rebel Band performs at Club Red this Sunday.

The 4-20 Party at Yucca Tap Room in Tempe: Festivities include the Charles Bond Happy Hour, a 4:20 Pizza Party, and live music from Silver Medallion, and more. Admission is free. Call 480-967-4777.

420 Fest at Cell Block in Mesa: This metal celebration boasts live music from Vital Remains, Monstrosity, Forever in Terror, He Who Binds Himself, Do Tremble, and Fall Silent. Admission costs $16-$20. Call 480-834-7680.

Charles Bond hosts happy hour at Yucca Tap Room on Sunday.

10th Annual 420 Party at all Cheba Hut locations: Cheba Hut Toasted Subs offers a Nug (4” sub), bag of chips, and a drink in a for $4.20, in addition to various raffles, giveaways, and live music performances. Call 480-446-0088.
