Turntablist impresario (and man-candy extraordinaire) Jared Alan has become an ace at packing in the hipster types to his numerous wingdings over the past couple years. Back when bygone danceteria Glam was still alive, they flocked to FauxShow on Friday nights like well-dressed moths to a flame. The same goes for his series of monthly Cheap Thrills dance parties -- essentially the heir apparent to FauxShow -- which took over Black Forest Mill German Restaurant (4900 East Indian School Road, 602-840-4000) in the well-to-do Arcadia neighborhood.
And now, the "in" crowd will no longer have to wait until the last Saturday of the month to get their freak on to electro and disco-punk tracks spun by Alan and his cohort Sean Watson, as Cheap Thrills is becoming a weekly as of this coming Saturday. A boffo launch party is planned, featuring guest Ashely Nicole (formerly of Shake!) during the evening, as well as an open bar from 10 p.m. until midnight. Things get going at 9 p.m. and admission is $5 until 2 a.m.
(If you're needing another dose of Alan, the cat also spins house and downtempo music at downtown drinkery Hanny's every Wednesday).
