My head just exploded. Goldenvoice has finally revealed the Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival offical lineup for their 2010 edition. The lineup is usually announced this time of year, on or around the MLK Day holiday, and it comes 87 days before the festival kicks off on Friday, April 16, in Indio, California. Muse was an early rumored headliner, as was Pavement, because of the band's recently announced reunion. Well, Muse has been pegged to headline for Saturday -- as I predicted -- and Jay-Z and Gorillaz are set to headline Friday and Sunday, respectively, with Gorillaz stealing the final headlining spot from Pavement (most likely because Gorillaz' over-the-top visuals are the kind of thing Coachella loves).

The rest of the lineup is classic Coachella -- plenty of DJs and electro/house acts, the best indie-rock bands, and an eclectic mix of older bands, including Sly and the Family Stone. However, there are a few bands playing the three-day festival that shouldn't come as a surprise, especially if you are a loyal Up on The Sun reader.

My theories on both Yeasayer and Beach House were confirmed. Yeasayer will have a Friday slot, with Beach House holding down a spot on Saturday. Both bands had tours coming through the Southwest/California around the time of Coachella and both had Los Angeles dates absent from that stretch of their respective tours. Now, it wasn't rocket science to see this happening, but it took a little intiution to clearly see that -- based on their reputation and talents -- that Coachella would invite them. That, or the bands already knew they were playing the festival and simply couldn't reveal that information until the lineup was officially announced.

The 2010 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival will take place April 16-18 at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. Tickets are $269 for a three-day pass and will be go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday through Ticketmaster. For more information on all things Coachella, head to the festival's official Web site. See you there.
