Sometimes, the songwriting process itself is enough to inspire songs, which is how local pop-tinged rock band Crash Coordinates churned out their current single, "Repetition Compulsion."

"(Vocalist/guitarist) Chris Kalla and I were inspired by the frustration of having to write a lot of songs for our upcoming full-length," says guitarist Chris Wahl. "It stemmed from both trying to constantly improve on what we've done previously but knowing that most wouldn't be used. I hope people can relate to working hard to reach their goals and not giving up, while recognizing that hindsight is always 20-20. For us, it is the creation of music, always trying to become better and better and learning from our mistakes."

The new track will be on their upcoming album, produced by Matt Grabe and to be released this summer. Catch the band live when they play The Fixx with Go Radio and This Providence Friday, May 4 -- the band says they'll be busting out they're "greatest hits" from the past years, as well as mixing in some new songs. Check out "Repetition Compulsion," along with lyrics, after the jump.

Repetition Compulsion

Closer to the end I see everything so clear
Words and thoughts lost in an ocean
Dreams are fallen and left broken
And what I'm trying to say as I stand at the edge
I could have made this whole thing happen
If only I could change what has been

Never really knew what I was writing about
And I've spent too many years trying to figure it out
Sold my soul for six strings and I'm wearing them out
Nobody seems to hear so I'm having my doubts
I'll say oh no no don't forget about me
Oh no, I'm under a smoking gun
You'd be a fool if you think I'd run

Every night I fall undone resting with my sins
This bottle will soon consume me
Every drop will cut right through me
And what I'm going to do is get close to the edge
I could have made this whole thing happen
If only I could have changed what has been

Never really knew what I was writing about
And I spent too many years trying to figure out
Sold my soul for six strings and I'm wearing them out
Nobody seems to hear so I'm having my doubts
I'll say oh no no don't forget about me
Oh no, I'm under a smoking gun
You'd be a fool if you think I'd run
Yeah you'd be a fool if you think I'd run
Yeah you'd be a fool if you think I'd

Never really knew what I was writing about
And I spent too many years trying to figure it out
Sold my soul for six strings and I'm wearing them out
Nobody fucking hears so I'm having my doubts.
Ill say oh no no don't forget about me,
No no no don't forget about me
Oh no no don't forget about me
Oh no, I'm under a smoking gun
You'd be a fool if you think I'd run
Yeah you'd be a fool if you think I'd run
Yeah you'd be a fool if you think I'd run
Just run
