The beatmeisters of United Groove might be dusting off plenty of '70s kitsch for their retro dance party Discotropolis, but chances are, you won't hear any KC and the Sunshine Band or Bee Gees hits pumping out of the multi-megawatt sound system of AREA Phoenix, 2102 North 23rd Avenue, during the massive affair on Saturday, May 31. Instead, it's gonna be a night of nonstop EDM courtesy of DJs like SoCal's Nemesis (a "turntable pervert" who drops hard house and hardcore), and El Paso's RickGroove (a specialist in hip-hop mash-ups and Dirty South grooves). Other jocks scheduled to spin include DJs Lil' Ernie Groove, Tucson's Masato, SamNiZZLE, Tranzit, Matt Dunn, and dozens more. Admission costs $20 pre-sale, $25 before 11 p.m., and $30 afterwards (with ladies free before 10 p.m. and $5 for those in '70s threads or disco wear). Call 480-334-3072 or visit www.myspace.com/discotropolis.
