The former owner of the now defunct Sweets & Beats is the curator of the upcoming Eastside Records Tribute Show opening Friday, March 18 at The Trunk Space.
When you put your key in the ignition and turn on the radio, what station would play right now? 104.7 FM--Top 40 is great.
What's the first record you bought? No Doubt, Tragic Kingdom, 6th grade, life-changing.
What's the last song played on your portal music player? Right now I have Pinkerton playing. Last year, I finally "got" Weezer. I know I'm over a decade late, but it happens.
What's the first concert you saw? No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom" tour with Cake and The Vandals at Desert Sky Pavilion. Again, life-changing.
What's your favorite concert you've ever been to? Honestly, it's a toss up between The Blue Meanies at Boston's in 2001 and Quintron and Miss Pussycat at the Great Arizona Puppet Theatre in 2004.
Preferred format: CD, vinyl, cassette, 8-Track or digital? Vinyl or CD.
What's your favorite CD? Oh man, seriously. I have no idea--too hard of a question (sorry that's my one no-fun answer.)
Who is your favorite singer or band? I think it'll always be a tie between Slow Gherkin, No Doubt, Quintron and Miss Pussycat and MU330. I don't ever want to choose. Ever.
What was your favorite new or new-to-you album from 2010? Weezer, Pinkerton--I totally get it now (that album anyway, not Weezer--they are terrible.)
What one song would you play if you had a world-wide radio audience? By a national artist--Slow Gherkin's "Tap Dancing." By a local artist--Evergreen Medic's "A Song On the Anniversary of the Day You Were Born".
What's your favorite CD? Of all time--no idea. Right now--Pop Punk Uber Alles, a mix CD that one of my best buds Jon Kirby made me. It's full of the greatest jams from bands like Millencolin, MxPx, The Wonder Years, Say Anything. Seriously, best mix CD ever (I will burn anyone who wants to hear this CD a copy--seriously, it's that good.)
Who is your favorite local artist? I have two favorite local bands--JJCnV, who beyond being some of the greatest people I know, are so damn good; and Liam and the Ladies, who play the best two-tone/ska in town, hands-down.
What is your favorite local venue to see music? The Trunk Space, of course!
What is your favorite music video? No Doubt, "Just A Girl"--the video that started it all!
