Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you? I hope not, but just in case someone is, there's good news on the horizon. Just after 7 a.m. this morning, X 103.9 announced The Foo Fighters are coming to town, on October 16 at US Airways Center.

I can't really think of a better "modern rock" band than the Fighters. The band's last album, Wasting Light rules pretty hard, a fantastic collection of beefy, rockin' tunes like the Queens of the Stone Age-channeling "White Limo" and the pop-rock done right "Alandria." There's plenty of classic punk connections -- Pat Smear of The Germs (he played with Nirvana, too) plays on the record, and Bob Mould of Husker Du is on there, too -but even if you don't care about any of that, the record is chock full of the loud-ass pop that the Foos have excelled at for years, with almost none of the balladry that clogged up 2007's Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, and even that record wasn't all that bad.
