Here’s a handful of concerts that were just announced.

Art Edwards With Dead Hot Workshop Saturday, September 6, 9 p.m. Yucca Tap Room in Tempe www.yuccatap.com

Edwards, co-founder and former bass player for the Refreshments, returns to the Valley to perform songs from his new (and first) solo album, Songs from Memory.

Random band fact: Edwards also writes “rock literature.” His latest novel, Ghost Notes, is available now.

Jay Reatard With Cheap Time Friday, August 1, 8 p.m. Hollywood Alley in Mesa www.myspace.com/jayreatardhttp://www.livenation.com

Memphis-based garage punk Jay Reatard brings his abrasive-yet-appealing brand of wigged out junk rock to Mesa, where he’ll perform tunes from his solo career, including songs from four seven-inch records released on the Matador label this year (there will be a total of six, leading to the release of a singles compilation this fall).

Random band fact: Reatard co-founded an indie record label, Shattered Records.

After a series of tour dates supporting Alicia Keys, 2007 American Idol winner (and Glendale resident) Jordin Sparks headlines her own tour, highlighting songs from her debut album.

Random band fact: Sparks was recently recognized by the NAACP with an Image Award for Outstanding New Artist.

Jackie Greene Thursday, August 28, 7:30 p.m. The Rhythm Room $16 www.livenation.com

In just six years, Americana artist Greene has toured with the likes of Buddy Guy, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. The Sacramento singer-songwriter is touring in support of his fifth album, Give Up the Ghost.

Random band fact: Greene recently toured with Phil Lesh & Friends.
