Happy Hump Day: Five Songs From the '90s About Doing It

At some point recently I found myself trudging along the westbound 10 freeway, scanning through the FM dial, when I heard a familiar snare sequence followed by the chorus: "That girl is poison/Never trust a big butt and a smile/That girl is poison."

Oh, yeah. A little Bell Biv Devoe gets me all the time.

After totally jamming out to the song I immediately thought back to BBD's other '90s masterpiece, "Do Me!" and like that, this weeks hump day list was conceived -- er -- compiled. After all, what better way to get over the hump than with a list of songs about doing it?

I was but a wee lad when these tracks came out, and maybe I didn't know what doing it was, but I was most certain it was cool. And it involved thrusting of some kind. And high-stepping. And a saxophone.

Here are five old school joints for your humping listening pleasure. Check it ...

Bell Biv Devoe - "Do Me!" (1990) Who knew "new jack swing" could be so damn sexy? When "Poison" and "Do Me!" dropped it was apparent this New Edition spin off was all grown up.

Candyman - "Knockin' Boots" (1990) The sample of Betty Wright's "Tonight Is the Night" makes this rap track almost sound sweet.

H-Town - "Knockin' Da Boots" (1993) This Luther Campbell creation injected some more classic soul into the equation while new jack swing was still doing its thing.

Changing Faces - "Stroke You Up" (1994) You can't leave the ladies out. All-girl bands like Changing faces, TLC and SWV staked their claims as the queens of smooth in the 90s.

Ginuwine - "Pony" (1996) By the time Ginuwine got all rowdy with his R&B debut, Ginuwine...The Bachelor, sexuality was anything but subtle.
