As much as it blows having to report to work after a weekend of fun, sometimes Mondays aren’t all that bad. Like this coming Monday (June 2, for all you calendar checkers out there) offers a couple cool-ass events to check out after you’ve clocked out for the day.
Unwed Sailor's Johnathan Ford.
The prog-ish instrumental alt-rockers of Unwed Sailor are scheduled to perform at Zia Records, 1940 West Indian School Road, starting at 5:30 p.m., before their gig later in the evening at Modified Arts in downtown Phoenix. The Seattle band (essentially) consists of bassist Johnathon Ford and a constantly rotating lineup of other musicians (which in the past has included members of Pedro the Lion, The Casket Lottery, and Lovedrug). Call 602-241-0313 for more information.
Over at the Guitar Center near Metrocenter Mall, 2272 West Peoria Avenue, outlandish guitarist John 5 (a.k.a. John William Lowery) will do an in-store appearance starting at 6 p.m., where he’ll discuss his experiences slinging his ax over the years in support of Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, David Lee Roth, and Rob Halford. John 5 will also perform some songs from his soon-to-be-released solo album, Requiem, and shill his new signature Fender Telecaster during the event. Call 602-375-3800 for more information.
Both events are free, but have limited capacity (so get there early).
