This year's annual collection of the opinions of thousands of music critics regarding the best albums and singles of the year has arrived. The poll was started in 1974 by famed music journalist Robert Christgau and has been continuously running ever since then. While not everyone on the New Times staff is a fan of Christgau (see Martin Cizmar's thought #4 in reflecting on last year's poll), the survey has become a staple of the music world. Plus, it's pretty fun to corral a few thousand music snobs together and see what emerges. While Animal Collective and Jay-Z came out on top, the rest of the list may be a bit more surprising.
