Fridays are glorious.
Especially when art by Andy Warhol and Fritz Scholder (one of my all-time faves...check out the review I wrote about him a while back) can be found in the same place.
Such is the case tonight at NU (Native + You) at the Heard Museum with the opening of "POP! Popular Culture in American Indian Art" exhibition.
You'll see some examples of early pop art by those two
gentlemen.
(And, yes, that means there's a Campbell's soup can in your future).
But that's not the only star power this show has to offer.
The show includes contemporary American Indian artists who incorporate 20th century pop culture imagery in their works. You'll see Jim Morrison, President Barack Obama, Wonder Woman, and Michael Jackson...just to name a few. The artists use jewelry, fashion, graffiti art, comics, pottery, and beadwork as frameworks for the pop culture iconography.

Now that you've got the visual teaser, the Heard sweetens the deal for tonight's shindig by including live art by Hoka Skenandore who will paint graffiti-inspired works on old vinyl records, live music by Acapulco 50, food, shopping, and a no-host bar.
Oh, and free admission.
