When you put your key in the ignition and turn on the radio, what station would play right now? I listen to satellite radio, and the stations switch every time I start my car. It usually ranges from Little Steven's Underground Garage to Studio 54 Radio.
What's the first album you bought? Probably Elton John, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
What's the first concert you saw? Beatlemania on Broadway or Yes at Madison Square Garden.
What's your favorite concert you've ever been to? That's a tough one. Been to a lot of Grateful Dead concerts in my day, so one of them, for sure. Probably the Madison Square Garden show, for sure. Also saw Led Zeppelin reunite at a charity concert -- that was slightly amazing. Saw U2 in a little club on Long Island that held a couple hundred people -- pretty memorable if you have a pulse. Saw the Police in the same venue -- another great moment.
What's the last song played on your music player? "Intrigue," from Pete Rock, off of The Surviving Elements.
Preferred format: CD, vinyl, cassette, 8-Track or digital? Vinyl! I was a vinyl baby. Did my share of 8-track and cassettes, for sure (the Dead Head phase ensured that).
What's your favorite album? Impossible to answer. From start to finish, hm, just can't do it. Probably would have a difficult time naming a top 10. I mean, the first time I heard Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother, Led Zep's "Down by the Seaside," from Physical Graffiti, Public Enemy's Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos, Pat Metheny Group -- can't do it.
Who is your favorite singer or band? I know I'm boring, but I cannot pick a single winner. There are so many great voices out there, from the sublime Astrud Gilberto to the powerful KRS-One to the swagger of Mick Jagger. As far as bands, see fave albums.
Does your computer track how many times you've played something -- if so, what's at the top of the list? "Plundered My Soul," by the Rolling Stones from the remastered Exile on Main Street.
What was your favorite new or new-to-you album from 2011? Probably the remastered Exile on Main Street. To hear songs from 30 years ago that were never released was pretty amazing.
What one song would you play if you had a worldwide radio audience? "One Love/People Get Ready," by Bob Marley. Just imagine the entire world listening to this at once, snapping their fingers, tapping their feet, bobbing their heads -- what a sight. Oh, and the message doesn't exactly suck.Who is your favorite local artist? Probably would be DJ Radar.
What is your favorite local venue to see music? Rhythm Room.What is your favorite music video? Ha! Well as an '80s, partier, I'd have to give a big up to Duran Duran. Not by far the best music videos as directors like Mark Pellington and Anton Corbin have done for Nirvana, De La Soul, etc., but what style and fun they had.
