Okay guys, so hear me out. I.C.P.'s The Gathering of the Juggalos 2012, scheduled for August 8-12 in Cave In Rock, Illinois, is looking pretty good.
In addition to a smattering of pretty great comedians like Cheech and Chong and Bobcat Goldthwait (officially the only person who's ever signed up for a a Juggalo event and "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me"), and the entire Psychopathic Records roster, the Gathering's got a solid lineup, featuring buzzing indie-hopper Danny Brown, and classic hip-hop weirdos like Kool Keith, Pharcyde, Bizmarkie, Tech N9ne, Rahzel, and Raekwon.
Not enough for you? How about a reunited Geto Boys? The Fat Boys? Master P? And our own always-in-trouble-but-you-gotta-love-him-anyway DMX? If these same acts were all signed up for Coachella, you'd be stoked, wouldn't you? Admit it.
But this isn't Coachella, or Bonnaroo, it's the Gathering, and in typical I.C.P. fashion, the announcement came via an elaborate 20-minute video setting up the festival as a post-zombie landscape, where brave Juggalos shun the "sheep" followers of the mainstream and head into the woods to party, grill burgers, and drink gallons of Faygo.
On the non-hip-hop front, master funkers (and sandwich eaters) George Clinton and Parliment Funkadelic will be on hand, as will Arizona's Soulfly and Kottonmouth Kings, Christian rap-rockers P.O.D., Static X, and some more nu-metally types.
One wishes that the selection of rock acts was as imaginative as the hip-hop performers. You just know that Vampire Weekend, Grimes, tUnE-yArDs, and Bon Iver would show up for the sheer WTF-ness and explosive Pitchfork headlines.
