Ska kids and rude boys from throughout the Valley will definitely be skanking up a storm at this news: alt-rock station X103.9 and local promoter Jeremiah Gratza (a.k.a. President Gator) are bringing a massive two-night ska festival to the Clubhouse Music Venue in Tempe next month.
The first night takes place on Thursday, January 27, and will be headlined by third-wave superstars The Toasters -- arguably the longest-running ska band in existence -- as well as Starpool (a ska supergroup made up of members of No Doubt and Save Ferris), and local band the 2 Tone Lizard Kings.
Night number two on Friday, January 28, will feature an appearance by The Ska Parade tour, which is being put on by the influential SoCal radio show of the same name. A quartet of Golden State bands will be featured during the gig, including San Francisco's Monkey, Chase Long Beach, The Skank Agents, and Huntington Beach act Gogo13 (whom you might remember from their appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba!). Flagstaff's Warsaw Poland Brothers and The Ska Parade's MC Tazy Phyllipz are also performing
The event will also serve as the final gig by Gratza as President Gator, as he will only be promoting shows for Stateside Presents from here on out. Tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door (a two-night pass will also run you $25). See Stateside's website for more info.
