Local punk rock band The Venomous Pinks are fighting for gender equality in the music business every time they take the stage. The three-lady group says they face challenges at every gig they play because audience members aren't always used to seeing so much female power on stage, and they're hoping to change perceptions with their current single and video, "Never Say Never."

"The song is about never saying never to your goals and dreams," says guitarist Drea Doll. "We're fun, and we rock just as much as the boys do."

That passion can be seen in their latest video, a simple but well-edited performance clip full of lots of head banging and a bevy of dancing fans. It debuted on BlankTV.com, an independent punk rock video channel and already has garnered more than 8,000 YouTube views in less than two weeks.

"Nothing has really changed for women in the music industry since the days of [all-female rock band] The Runaways, but we overcome that by not letting discrimination stop us," Drea says. "We keep going and do what we do and get better and better. We face a lot with not wanting to be listened to as a band, especially at new places and out of state, where it's twice as hard to get booked since they look at us as girls touring. The rejection and hate we get from people only makes us want to rise above even more and be the best band we can be."

Judging from their climbing video views, with lyrics such as, "Will you follow me, or fall to your knees?", they seem to be doing just fine. Catch the group live at Tempe Tavern Friday, January 17, and watch the video below.
