Weird Al Yankovic Announces Phoenix Concert

The summertime concert lineup in the Valley just got a little weirder. That’s because legendary parody musician “Weird Al” Yankovic will be headed to Phoenix during the sweltering season for a performance at Comerica Theatre on Wednesday, August 3.

Tickets for the show will be $39.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

If you were feeling slighted by the fact that Weird Al didn’t include the Valley in last summer’s 73-city Mandatory Fun tour, hopefully the chance to sing along with the musician in person six months from now will make up for it.

It's Yankovic's first appearance in Phoenix in four years and it is in support of his epic 2014 album Mandatory Fun, which went double gold and allowed him to top the charts for the first time in decades, as well as be the first musician to create music videos for almost every song on a single album. It’s also a great listen with several fantastic songs, including “Tacky” (his sendup of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”) and “Word Crimes” (a parody of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”).


And if the set lists from some of Yankovic's more recent performances are any indication, local Weird Al fans will hear both when he hits Comerica, as several tracks from Mandatory Fun – such as "Lame Claim to Fame," “First World Problems,” “Foil,” and the latest edition of his polka parody medley of hit songs from the last few years – are included in his current song lineup.

Oh, and as you might’ve guessed, he still ends his shows with the back-to-back renditions of his Star Wars-inspired parodies “The Saga Begins” and “Yoda.”
