What's On Tap for This Weekend's Art Detour

Maybe it's just us, but doesn't it just seem like a really nice day outside today? Mild weather, cool breezes, and lots of clouds. Basically, the perfect kinda weather to be out all weekend on the sidewalks of downtown Phoenix.

It's Art Detour weekend, which means Roosevelt Row, Grand Avenue, and other locations will be swamped and swollen with crowds. The action runs from tonight through Sunday, and we've assembled a list of what will be going on. (Be sure to also check out Robrt Pela's article here).

FRIDAY, MARCH 7:

Afida's Hair Culture
116 East Roosevelt Street
DJ Tony Culture will be spinning reggae, dancehall, and old-school music starting at 8 p.m. Call 602-258-4992.

Bragg's Pie Factory
1301 Grand Avenue
The annual "Mutant Pinata" show is displayed. Call 602-256-7769.

The Breadfruit Authentic Jamaican Grill
108 East Pierce Street
Reggae band DUBble Down performs. 7 p.m. Call 602-267-1266.

Chez Nous

Local band Elixir will play R&B and Motown-style jams all night. 9 p.m., $7. Call 602-266-7372.

The walls of this downtown coffee house will feature the decorated vinyl of the "Stereographic Record Show" and the colorfully abstract paintings of J.J. Horner. Turntablists like Djentrification will provided the music. Call 602-237-5446.

Homless artist contribute their art work to the DIG's monthly First Friday show. Greasepaint Youth Theatre will present a special production, and a line-up of local bands perform, including A Technicolor Yawn and Hands on Fire. Call 602-257-4454.

The roving bagpipe band will be walking throughout the Evans Churchill Neighborhood starting at 7 p.m.

Folk artists Shawn Barrows, Nate Everingham, and others are scheduled to perfom. 8 p.m.

The Icehouse

The "Save the Icehouse" Benefit will take place. 6 p.m.

The Lost Leaf

More than a dozen creative types have provided work for Pravus' new show "The Panelists: Celebrating the Comic Book Panel," which celebrates the sequential art form. The line-up includes Mitch O'Connell, The Pizz, Anthony Ausgang, Luster Kaboom, Mark George, Kirk Ryden, Zoey Stevens, Joshua Ellingson, Russ Pope, and Jon Haddock.
