A Chandler mom has been arrested on four charges of child abuse stemming from injuries to her 2-month-old son.
Police say 25-year-old Aubree Lewellen abused the infant for weeks resulting in several injuries.
On an initial investigation, police noticed the baby had a swollen leg, which turned out to be the result of a broken femur that will require surgery.
As well as the broken leg, the baby had bruises, lacerations, scratches, and bite marks all over his body, including on his head and face.
Chandler police Detective Frank Mendoza says cops were contacted when the baby was taken to a doctor. The doctor, Mendoza says, called police, who began an investigation and
discovered the infant's injuries.
Mendoza says details of the abuse aren't entirely clear, but it appears to have began when the baby was about 5 weeks old.
The baby's father, Brett Lewellen, 26, was also arrested, but he has not been charged with any abuse. He has, however, been charged with four counts of failure to report alleged abuse.
Both are being held in a Maricopa County jail. The baby, Mendoza says, is expected to fully recover.
