Don Bivens, the former chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party, made it official this morning: he's running for the United States Senate.

Bivens, a Phoenix-based attorney, announced on his campaign website this morning that he'll seek the Democratic nomination to run for the Senate seat getting vacated by Senator Jon Kyl.

"I'm not a politician. I've spent my entire career in the private
sector, working with businesses large and small," Bivens says. "I'm
running for the United States Senate because we can't keep sending the
same folks back to Washington and expecting a different result."

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has also been mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for Kyl's seat, but it's unknown whether she'll be able to handle the rigors of campaigning for a statewide election as she continues to recover after getting shot through the brain during the January 8, Tucson shooting rampage.

Already in the race on the other side of the aisle is Congressman Jeff Flake, the presumed front-runner in the race, and Mesa real estate investor Wil Cardon. Other Republicans who've said they're running for the seat include Fort Mohave general contractor Douglas McKee and former Youngtown Mayor Bryan Hackbarth.
