A former Phoenix Boy Scouts leader and his roommate are accused of committing sex crimes against five boys between 1983 and 2003.

A boy actually filed a complaint with the Boy Scouts alleging now-65-year-old Bill Challberg molested him back in 1986. The boy didn't go to police, and it wasn't until October of last year that a new risk-assessment employee with the Boy Scouts of America discovered the complaint, and turned it over to police.

Challberg, and 51-year-old roommate Julian Mendoza, are accused of committing sex crimes against boys for years after that complaint was filed with the Boy Scouts.

Since police got this complaint in October, investigators have identified five victims, according to Phoenix Police Sergeant Trent Crump.

The original victim, who's now 45 years old, said he met Challberg at a national Boy Scouts conference in 1983, and told police Challberg molested him until 1986, when he was 14 to 16 years old.

Challberg was also a bus driver in Phoenix at the time, and once had oral sex with the boy on the city bus, the alleged victim told police.

He also accused Challberg of sexually assaulting him on another occasion, when he was 16.

Three other people who lived near Challberg told police they ended up going to Challberg's house. A couple of them said they went over there to get beer or pot.

One man detailed being molested by Challberg several times as a kid, another said Challberg attempted to molest him, and the fourth man said Challberg only showed him pornographic videos.

Mendoza was also accused of having sexual contact with several of the kids, and was the only one accused of being molested by the fifth victim.

Sergeant Crump says all the boys were between the ages of 9 and 16 when this happened. Challberg was arrested on a total of 26 charges, and Mendoza was arrested on 15 charges. Crump says police are still seeking more information from the public in this case.
