Democratic U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was one of at least 12 people shot this morning at an event at a grocery store in Tucson, NPR is reporting.
Giffords was reportedly shot in the head as she attended a "Congress on your Corner" event at a Safeway in Northwest Tucson. She was rushed to an area hospital, where her condition was unknown -- although, ABC News is reporting that hospital staff confirm that Giffords is alive.
According to varying media reports, the gunman approached Giffords and just started shooting into the crowd.
At least 12 people, including several members of the congresswoman's staff, were shot during the attack.
It's been reported that the gunman is in custody, but New Times was unable to confirm that report this morning.
