Among the renovations will be narrowing of Southern Avenue, plus shaded sidewalks, more colorful street signs, and better landscaping...Bob Gebhard, special assistant to the Arizona Diamondbacks, suffered a mild heart attack on Wednesday. Gebhard, 67, underwent surgery for a blocked artery at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, and Diamondbacks General Manager Josh Byrnes said he's expected to fully recover...
A Phoenix police officer was tased and arrested for DUI after other officers found him asleep in his car in Gilbert. Seth Castillo, 26, was off duty when he blew through a stop sign and allegedly passed out behind the wheel. When officers tried to wake him, he reportedly became confrontational. Castillo is still on duty and working the streets after his arrest...A former surgeon has been sentenced to five years in prison for running an illegal pharmacy in Cottonwood. Lawrence Carl Runke, 66, was not a licensed pharmacist, and his medical license had been suspended since 1999. Prosecutors say his pharmacy, Global Medicines, LLC, made more than $1.5 million since 2005, by purchasing unapproved drugs from India for resale...After 20 years, local radio host Bill Austin has left the "Beth & Bill" show on KEZ. Austin's last show was Thursday, and he said he'd been thinking of retiring for a couple years. The show will continue with Beth McDonald as solo host.
