The Phoenix City Council will vote tomorrow on a proposal that would save late-night Metro light-rail service on weekends. The plan calls for other cuts, primarily reduced light-rail hours during the weekdays. If approved, the changes would take effect in July...The Mesa High School Choir will participate in a March 19 performance at Carnegie Hall in New York. Choir members were invited, along with 150 to 175 other singers from around the world, to form a festival chorus. Mesa High choir director Andrea Jones will lead her students on the trip to New York...A man walking around the Farnsworth Golf Course in Mesa died after falling into a pond. The 72-year-old had a faint pulse when emergency workers arrived but died on the way to the hospital Saturday afternoon. Mesa fire officials are unsure if he drowned or died from a medical emergency...


A group of Valley students from the Thunderbird School of Global Management are stuck in Chile after an earthquake ravaged the country Saturday morning. The group was in Chile for a week-long study when the quake struck, and their hotel made it through the disaster unscathed. However, the airport in Santiago is still closed, and so the 42 Valley students are waiting for the next flight out...The city's "Click It Or Ticket" program, designed to make sure Valley drivers wear their seat-belts, kicked off Saturday. Phoenix police and DPS officers have checkpoints set up around the Valley and will ticket drivers who aren't wearing seat-belts or using proper child restraints.The enforcement period will last until Sunday, March 7...A piece of smoking luggage at Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport caused a scare this morning. Fire officials said the luggage was by itself in Terminal 3 when it started smoking. Crews are investigating the incident, but it appears that a broken container of Chloride in the luggage caused the smoke.
