The DPS claims that when properly used, seat-belts are 45 percent effective in preventing potential fatalities in crashes. Seat-belt enforcement begins in Maricopa County Saturday and runs through October 2...A Phoenix woman was shot and killed by police on Saturday afternoon near 19th avenue and Maryland. Katherine Hysaw, reportedly barricaded herself in an apartment with a butcher knife. When officers entered the apartment, Hysaw allegedly assaulted them with the knife and broken glass. The names of the officers involved have not been released...

Mesa police say a mother and her two teenage sons are dead in an apparent murder-suicide. The woman's husband returned home from work late Saturday and found the bodies, all of which had gunshot wounds. The names of the victims have not been released...Preston Barlow, a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has sued Arizona officials, including Attorney General Terry Goddard, claiming that he was defamed and his civil rights violated when they revoked his police certification. Barlow's certification was revoked in 2007 amid allegations of misconduct...Phoenix police arrested James Alden Tuck, 31, after they were called to his apartment early Sunday after reports of a man threatening people with a knife. When they arrived, Tuck began to walk toward them with a raised sword. He dropped the weapon at the officer's commands and was booked into jail for aggravated assault.
