Senator John McCain -- who's been barking about the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, for quite some time now -- has officially upset the president over the matter.
McCain has insisted that there's either a coverup or incompetence coming from the Obama administration over its response to the September attack, and today, Obama responded to some of the things said by McCain and his colleague, Senator Lindsey Graham.
Basically, there's a rumor out there that Obama's going to nominate U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice as Secretary of State.
Rice may or may not be the cause of controversy after initially saying the attack on the consulate was "spontaneous," as part of a protest, and sparked by "the video."
Now that everyone seems to be in agreement that it was a terrorist attack -- which McCain was saying from the get-go -- McCain seems to think that Rice was intentionally spreading misinformation.
McCain and Graham have now said that they'd try to block the confirmation of Rice, if the president does indeed nominate her.
Here's how Obama responded to that:
McCain has since responded with the following statement from his office:
"I have always said that the buck stops with the President of the United States, particularly for his contradictory statements in the Rose Garden, on '60 Minutes' and in later venues alleging that the obvious terrorist attack in Benghazi was triggered by a spontaneous demonstration and a hateful video, or that we didn't know the cause. Those statements clearly did not comport with the facts on the ground. We owe the American people and the families of the murdered Americans a full and complete explanation, which for two months the President has failed to deliver. Given all these facts, a Select Committee must be appointed in order to obtain a full and complete accounting which would be credible with the American people."
