Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Joshua Silverman, a 35-year-old from Scottsdale, was one of six soldiers who died in a helicopter crash this week in Afghanistan, according to the Defense Department.
Silverman is the 49th Arizonan to die in Afghanistan under "Operation Enduring Freedom."

"They died Dec. 17, in Now Bahar, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered as a result of a helicopter crash," the DoD release says. "The incident is pending investigation."
According to a CNN report, the helicopter likely crashed from mechanical failure, but "two senior U.S. officials" said the soldiers may have survived the crash and been killed by enemy fire.
Fifty-one Arizonans have died in "Operation Enduring Freedom," with 49 of the deaths in Afghanistan, where Pat Tillman was the first Arizonan killed back in April 2004.
Ninety-eight Arizona soldiers died during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
