The Tempe man who tried to rape an employee at Phoenix's Arizona Grand Resort in December will spend the rest of his life on probation.
Michael Robert Martinez, 31, pleaded guilty in June to attempted kidnapping and attempted sexual assault, and was sentenced this morning to lifetime probation with mental-health and sex-offender terms, as well as a 12-month deferred jail sentence.
According to court documents, the woman saw Martinez hanging around the bathroom outside her office at the Arizona Grand Resort, and when she went to the bathroom later, Martinez came on in.
Martinez entered the bathroom as she was washing her hands, coming up from behind and pulling down her tights and underwear, according to the documents.
The woman said Martinez knocked her down, and they started struggling.
The woman won that match, managing to get free and run out the door.
The victim told police "she was sure the suspect would have raped her," according to the documents.
Her co-workers heard her screaming and saw her run back to her office, while Martinez just stood around, the report says.
A security guard managed to hold him until the cops showed up.
The managing director of the resort told New Times in December that Martinez was neither an employee nor a guest of the hotel.
