Phoenix police shot and killed an armed domestic violence suspect early this morning and are currently seeking another man -- a potential victim -- in the incident.
Phoenix police got a call about 1:45 a.m. that a man with a knife was running amok at the Phoenician Palms apartment complex near 35th Avenue and Dunlap Road.
The suspect and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument where some type of physical assault went down, police say.
A man police believe is a neighbor of the suspect got involved and
calmed the knife-wielding man down and brought him out of the apartment.
In the parking lot of the apartment complex, the two men began to argue.
The female victim, still inside the apartment, told police she thinks
she saw the suspect stab the neighbor. The neighbor has not been located
and police aren't sure whether he sustained any injuries.
Following the confrontation with the neighbor, the suspect continued to
walk through the parking lot looking for the woman. At one point, police
say, the suspect kicked down the door of the one of the woman's family
members, who also lives in the complex.
When the suspect realized the woman wasn't there, he walked downstairs and was met by two Phoenix cops.
The officers told the man to drop his knife, which he did, but then
pulled a gun from his waste band. He reportedly told the officers
tonight would be the last night that he lives -- and it was, he
continued to approach the officers, gun in hand, and was shot by police.
He was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital.
The gun, police later found out, was a pellet gun. The suspect, police
believe, may have been drunk or on drugs at the time of the shooting.
Police are still looking for the other man involved in the incident.
He's described as a black male in his 30s, with a thin build and a pony
tail.
Police are also looking for a vehicle -- a Chevrolet minivan with Arizona handicap plate BN214.
Anyone with information is asked to call Phoenix police.
