Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, acquired from the Ducks in 2007, set a franchise record on Saturday, when his 32 saves gave the Coyotes their 34th win of the season -- something the team has never achieved in a single season in its short history in the Valley.
With the shutout, which Bryzgalov achieved despite seven Anaheim power plays, he moves into a first-place tie for most shutouts in the league this season, with seven.
From an offensive standpoint, the Coyotes moves before Wednesday's trade deadline seem to be paying off in a big way -- even on the team's awful power play.
The Coyotes have gone scoreless in their last 29 power plays much because of the lack of a hard shot from the point, which the team now has after re-acquiring Derek Morris and picking up Mathieu Schneider.
The Coyotes first goal came on the power play from Petr Prucha late in the first period, with Morris setting up the goal with a shot from just inside the point.
Wojtek Wolski, the Coyotes trade deadline pickup from the Colorado Avalanche, came away from Saturday's game with two points, including a goal early in the second period.
The Coyotes last two goals came from Vernon Fiddler, with the assist from Wolski, in the second period, and Keith Yankdle put the nail in the coffin with the team's fourth goal late in the third period.
The Coyotes' defense played well, when it wasn't defending against seven Anaheim power plays, and the re-acquisition of Derek Morris gives the Coyotes a goon-squad addtion the team has been missing this season.
The gloves hit the ice late in the third period with Morris squaring off against Anaheim's Corey Perry for a quick brawl, which Morris arguably won.
As the saying goes: "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out."
