A Phoenix man stabbed his roommate after hearing that his roommate was the one who recently sexually assaulted one of his relatives, police say.
Unfortunately, 50-year-old Thomas Hults was acting on inaccurate information and stabbed his innocent roommate, according to police.
According to court documents obtained by New Times, someone in Hults' family was getting married in Chandler two weeks ago, and both Hults and his roommate were in attendance.
After the wedding, and everyone went home, Hults got a call from his sister, who claimed that one of Hults' female relatives had been sexually assaulted by Hults' roommate during the reception, according to the documents.
Hults first confronted his roommate verbally, but when his roommate denied sexually assaulting anyone, Hults stabbed him in the neck, the documents state.
After the stabbing at their condo, near 81st Avenue and McDowell Road, Hults' roommate was transported to the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he had to undergo surgery. He was expected to survive.
However, police spoke with the alleged sexual assault victim, who said Hults' roommate was not the guy.
According to a police probable-cause statement, Hults turned himself in to police and admitted that he "felt bad for hurting an innocent person."
Hults was booked into jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
