Cody Bishop (left) died at 18 thanks to Steven Landrum. |
For a typical Arizonan, ".227" may refer to the box of rifle ammo in their truck, but for Steven Landrum -- who was packing a .227 blood-alcohol level while driving his pickup truck when he crashed into and killed an 18-year-old kid last May -- that spells 11 years up the river.
Landrum, 23, of the Gila River Indian Community, pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month in the death of Corona del Sol High School senior Cody Bishop, and was sentenced this morning by a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge to 11 years in prison.
The cops say on May 6, 2010, Landrum was going about 80 miles per hour through a 45-m.p.h. zone when he smacked into Bishop's van on Ray Road in Chandler.
Bishop was flown to a Scottsdale hospital, where he remained on life support for three days before dying during the morning of May 9.
Landrum initially entered a not guilty plea to the manslaughter charge, but apparently there's no real way to get around driving wasted and killing a high school kid, and he entered a guilty plea on February 3.
Landrum will have plenty of time to reflect on killing Bishop two weeks short of the kid's high school graduation.
