Yesterday we found out why Worcestershire Sauce is mixing it up with other stuff on the bitters shelf. Today, we give you three recipes in which the savory condiment is essential. Who knew there were that many?
Bloody Mary
The most popular hangover curative around, the Bloody Mary was introduced to American drinkers more than 50 years ago. It may have been based off the Red Snapper, a variation developed in 1920s Paris that was made using gin.
The ingredients:
2 oz. vodka
4 oz. tomato juice
½ tbsp. lemon juice
1 splash Worcestershire sauce
3 to 4 dashes Tabasco
1 teaspoon horseradish
How to make it:
Squeeze the liquid out of the horseradish, then shake all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker. Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Add salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with a stalk of celery, if you're into that kind of thing. (recipe via esquire.com)
Caesar
Created and primarily enjoyed in Canada, the Caesar is a variation of the Bloody Mary that makes use of Clamato juice. Crazy canucks.
The ingredients:
1 ½ oz vodka
Clamato juice
3 dashes Tabasco
3 dashes Worcestershire
How to make it:
Line the rim of an ice-filled glass with salt and pepper. Pour in the vodka, fill with clamato juice, then add the remaining ingredients. Garnish with a celery stick. (recipe via drinksmixer.com)
Michelada
One of the world's most popular beer cocktails, the Michelada is said to have been developed in a club in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
The ingredients:
12 oz. beer
1 lemon, juiced
2 dashes Worcestershire
1 dash soy sauce
1 dash Tabasco
1 pinch black pepper
Salt
How to make it:
Mix all ingredients except the beer in a highball glass filled with ice. Add the beer, stir, and enjoy. (recipe via drinksmixer.com)
