9 Metro Phoenix Restaurants Scored a 'D' On County Health Inspections in July 2016

July was a bad month for metro Phoenix Denny's restaurants, with two Valley locations scoring a "D" on county health inspections. July was a bad month for metro Phoenix Denny's restaurants, with two Valley locations scoring a "D" on county health inspections.

But the all-American diners weren't the only restaurants that struggled to earn a passing grade from inspectors. Other restaurants that earned low grades last month include a popular Chandler gelato spot and a West Valley Vietnamese restaurant. 

Gelato 64, Chandler (2095 North Dobson Road)

"Observed employee wearing one glove attempt to wash the [hand] without a glove at the hand sink for 3 seconds. Discussed proper hand washing and glove use with employee."

Burger King, Mesa (10025 East Southern Avenue) 

"Operator found cleaning the milkshake mixing blender arm by only using a sanitizing solution improperly after each use — trained manager at time on the correct washing procedure for all food contact surfaces."

Safari Bakery and Cafe, Phoenix (5042 East McDowell Road)

"Observed employee wash plates with water and place on drying rack. Spoke to manager about proper wash, rinse, and sanitize procedures. "

Combo Express Mexican Food, Phoenix (4550 East Cactus Road)

"In top portion of cook line prep table cooler, sliced and diced tomatoes/ 48*F, barbacoa/ 50*F out of internal temperatures. Per person in charge, tomatoes and barbacoa were prepared >4 hours. Sliced and diced tomatoes and barbacoa were discarded."

Denny's, Phoenix (4120 North 51st Avenue)

"Observed ten live roaches in cook line area. Ensure that pest control is properly performed."  

Denny's, Phoenix (1401 North 75th Avenue) 

"Handwashing sink at the end of the cook line (across from the egg station) was blocked by a stack of soiled utensils sitting on the ground in front of the sink. The utensils were moved. Earlier, the sink had also had a sanitizer bucket resting in it, which was later removed."

US Airways Cafe North Hanger, Sky Harbor Airport 

"Cheesecake in 3 door blue cooler in the front at 47 degrees. Lettuce, tomatoes, tuna, and cheese in prep cooler near fryer at 48 degrees."

PT Noodles, Goodyear (1375 North Litchfield Road)

"Employee using her bare hands grabbed some grated carrots from the refrigerated work top to put on her salad. The contaminated carrots were discarded."

Super Taco, food truck 

"Mobile food establishment does not have current commissary agreement on file and/or has maintained a log of visits to the approved commissary. No commissary visits sheet available."
