From time to time, Zach Fowle will provide a visual guide to every day and extraordinary situations ... and (because he has bad handwriting) Claire Lawton will illustrate them. Welcome to Charted Territory:
The world of a food snob is an often-confusing world of trends, vocabulary and kitchen appliances. Here are a few definitions that might help you with the illustration:
Alton Brown: an American television personality best known for his roles on shows including Good Eats, Iron Chef America, and The Next Iron Chef on Food Network.
Kale: (or borecole) is a form of cabbage.
Vegan: one who abstains from all uses of animal products.
Mainstream Vegan: one who loves granola, indie bands, forehead bands, and feathers.
Tapas bars: Spanish restaurants that serve small dishes -- not to be confused with topless bars...
Salud: Spanish for "cheers."
Ramekin: (a.k.a. bouillon bowl) a small glass or glazed ceramic serving bowl.
Food snob: one who would not need definitions for any of the above terms.
