After less than a year of operation in Gilbert, American TapHouse has shut its doors for good. The restaurant, which came courtesy of Scottsdale-based restaurant management company Tasty Brand Holdings, offered a family-friendly environment as well as a menu of American fare.
To make the sudden closure all the more bizarre, according the restaurant's website American TapHouse will be relocating to North Dakota, "to take the leap right to the heart of the oil boom to McKenzie County."

The restaurant's website goes on to explain that American TapHouse will be reopening as a part of a new commercial development complex in a master planned community to be located 2.5 miles outside of Watford City in McKenzie County, North Dakota. Recently North Dakota has seen a period of growth thanks to an oil boom kickstarted by the discovery of Parshall Oil Field in 2006.
American TapHouse's sister restaurant, TapHouse Kitchen, remains open. That restaurant opened earlier this year in the Hilton Village Center at 6137 North Scottsdale Road. It took over the space formerly occupied by Blue Wasabi and also serves a modern American menu of food that's complemented by 20 craft beers on tap.
At least American TapHouse fans can take consolation in knowing that they're welcome to swing by their former neighborhood haunt the next time they're in the Roughrider State.
"Should any of our Arizona family find their way through North Dakota in the future, we hope you will stop in and enjoy some of your favorite dishes," the website reads.
