Fermenting 101: Arizona Homebrewer's Basics Today

This October, you can join the Arizona Society of Homebrewers for a crash course on fermentation and the basics of homebrewing during a five-week class available through the city of Tempe. The course, which will be led by ASH President Rob Fullmer, will cost $39 and will be held at Four Peaks on Wilson in Tempe. It also includes an optional brewday on November 2 at the Brewers Connection. Registration for non-Tempe residents opens today and can be purchased online at the city of Tempe website. Napa Valley Wine Dinner Wednesday, August 21

On Wednesday, head to the Greene House in Scottsdale for a taste of California's iconic Napa Valley. The California-inspired restaurant will host a three-course wine dinner featuring the wines of Cep Vineyards, a secondary label of Peay Vineyards located on the west Sonoma cost. Chef Raymond Suto will offer dishes including ceviche of halibut cheek and beet chips and churro with horchata gelato during the dinner, which costs $50 a person and includes a wine reception at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call 480-889-9494 or visit the Greene House website.

Stonehenge: A Simul-Tapping Event Thursday, August 22

Fans of California beer have something in store this week, too, when World of Beer Tempe brings some exclusive brew from Stone Brewing Company to their taps. On Thursday, August 22, the beer bar will have a simul-tapping event featuring Ruination IPA Grapefruit Slam, available only at World of Beer and brewed by Stone. The lineup also includes the brewery's Smoked Porter, Pale Ale, Levitation Ale, Arrogant Bastard and many more. Petite Maison's Four-Year Anniversary Thursday, August 22

On Thursday, Scottsdale's Petite Maison is turning four, and to celebrate, chef James Porter has created a special Anniversary Dinner for $44. The menu includes a choice of smoked salmon tartar with caviar and wasabi creme fraiche or charred ahi tuna with sesame noodles, followed by an omakase bento box or "Duck McNuggets" with chantrelle mushrooms and orange sweet and sour sauce. The festivities also include specially priced $14 bottles of both red and white wines, chosen by the restaurant's sommelier. Drinks with Mixologist Kim Haasarud Thursday, August 22

On Thursday, August 22, join Chow Bella at Tempe's Changing Hands Bookstore for some drink-tasting and -making with mixologist Kim Haasarud. At the special event, the author and beverage consultant will sign copies of her newest book, 101 Tropical Drinks, which was released in May and offers a collection of classic cocktail reipces including the Mai Tai, Dark and Stormy, and Zombie. Catch her at Changing Hands at 7 p.m. to see her make make two cocktails, a traditional Mai Tai and a Coconut Water Colada, both made with Cruzen Rum.
