This week: Carne Asada served up by Sonora Mesquite Grill

¿Como se dice?: Carne asada may just be a beefy filling to most folks ordering it off the menu in taco or burrito form. But to anyone that has attended or thrown a Carne Asada in their backyard? That means something entirely different. A carne asada is a Mexican-style barbeque that's the perfect excuse to drink cold Negra Modelo and Tecate while citrus marinated steak from the local carniceria grills poolside. Nobody likes firing up a hot grill when the mercury climbs into triple digits though. Luckily, Sonora Mesquite Grill is on hand with their self-proclaimed "Best Carne Asada This Side of the Border."

(sink your teeth into all the spicy details after the jump)

La Comida: We made our own carne asada sampler platter out of the two taco plate and a burrito on the side. (Because a burrito on the side is kind of how we roll--get it?) Add some meaty charro beans, chunky guacamole, and a trio of flavorful salsas and what do you get? An impromptu carne asada in the middle of your living room--no hard work or grilling required. If you're feeling decadent, add a mango raspado on the side.

El Sabor: The carne asada at Sonora Mesquite Grill is true to their roots, Sonoran-style steak marinated and grilled to juicy perfection. The caramelization on the meat made it crunchy and tender at the same time. Slightly sweet and smoky from the citrus marinade laced with cumin, chiles, and the smoke from a hot mesquite grill. Top your tacos with cilantro, pico, and your choice of guac 'n' salsas. Same goes for the burritos!

Bring a bit of México to your kitchen: Ranch Pro Markets and Food City will have absolutely everything you need for a successful at home carne asada. (Heck, even Fry's will have all the basic ingredients.) Plus it's more than likely that you have a carniceria in your neighborhood that you've never stepped foot into. Take one of these summertime lazy days to explore your local Mexican meat mart and walk away with some damn fine carne fit for a friends and family feast.
